Abstract
The main aim of the project is to test and validate a NEW technological solution for built-up cold-formed steel beams, with corrugated sheet webs and built-up cold-formed steel flanges. The connecting technologies, such as modern welding, i.e. Spot welding and Cold Metal Transfer welding will be examined. A large experimental program, extended by numerical simulations, on connecting details and full scale beams will be conducted to optimise the fastening technology and relevant details, as well as on the purpose to demonstrate and evaluate the performances of proposed solutions. The proposed technical solution has a great potential for mass production and, due to its conceptual and technological novelty, offers the opportunity to obtain a patent.
Objectives
1. Experimental and numerical investigation and validation of a now technological solution, composed of corrugated sheet web and thin walled cold-formed flanges, joined together with point welding and/or CMT;
2. Investigation and validation of the solution with a parametric study on numerical models using finite element software ABAQUS;
3. Extension of design methods from EN 1993-1-5, Annex D for this now type of beam, corrugated sheet web and thin walled cold-formed flanges, joined together with point welding, and to complement de provisions from EN 1993-1-3.
